The most dramatic love story in Danish history is the affair between King Christian. VII's physician, Johan Struensee, and the English born queen of Denmark, Caroline Mathilda in the early 1770's. During the past 40 years, several screen adaptations of this emotional chapter in Danish history have been on the drawing board, but it isn’t until now, with Nikolaj Arcel’s A ROYAL AFFAIR, that a Danish feature film about one of the country’s most fascinating dramas reaches the silver screen
Starring Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander A ROYAL AFFAIR is directed by Nikolaj Arcel, who is behind award-winning features such as KING’S GAME (2004) and THE ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (2007). Lately Arcel was nominated for the most prestigious film prize in Scandinavia, The Nordic Film Council Prize, for his dramacomedy TRUTH ABOUT MEN (2010). Arcel also wrote the screenplay for Stieg Larsson’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO – an accomplishment for which he earned a BAFTA nomination (2011).
Princes in the Tower (2005 TV)
This is a little known but interesting true story about two brothers that were princes but disappeared. The knowledge of their living is true but their murder is assumed. Wiki
The strange 15th Century disappearance of two European royals - 12-year-old Edward V and his 10-year-old brother, Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York, lingers as one of the most enigmatic and bizarre incidents of the Middle Ages. In 1483, the two little boys stood in line as heirs to the British throne, but their father's early death preceded official accusations of regal bigamy and the judicial decision that the children were in fact illegitimate sons. As a result, the little boys were promptly removed from sight and placed in the Tower of London - a royal residence that doubled as a prison - never to be seen again. For centuries, historians have speculated about the actual fade of these children. Justin Hardy's historical drama Princes in the Tower recreates these events, providing one possible explanation for their fates. The film then moves ahead in time to 1491, when a teenager turned up, seemingly from out of nowhere, claiming that he was in fact Richard and that he wished to reclaim his birthright and rule the country

Production Starts on Erotic Thriller THERESE with Elizabeth Olsen and Graphic Novel Adaptation THE SCRIBBLER Starring Katie Cassidy
Based on Emile Zola's sensational novel, "Therese Raquin," Therese is set to film in Belgrade, Serbia and Budapest, Hungary. Olsen stars in the 1860s Paris-set thriller as the titular character, a beautiful but sexually repressed young woman trapped in a loveless marriage with Camille (Felton), her sickly cousin. Forced into the relationship by her controlling aunt, Madame Raquin (Lange), it comes as no surprise that Therese begins a torrid affair with her husband's friend, Laurent (Isaac) that climaxes with tragic consequences. Written and directed by Charlie Stratton, Therese also stars Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), John Kavanagh (HBO's The Tudors), Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean), and Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids). 'Game of Thrones'' Sean Bean Cast as Snow White's Father
Sean Bean, hot off his regal performance in HBO's Game of Thrones, is in final negotiations to play yet another monarch, this time Snow White's father in Relativity's untitled Snow White adventure movie. The pic, currently shooting in Montreal with Tarsem Singh behind in the director's chair, sees Julia Roberts as the evil queen and Lily Collins as her step-daughter who vie for the affection of a prince (Armie Hammer). The queen wants to destroy Snow's beauty in her blind determination to be the most beautiful in the land. If the movie is anything like the fairy tale, things do not end well for the man, which is consistent with many of Beans' characters, whether it's Boromir in the Lord of the Rings movies or Eddard Stark in Thrones. More About Sean Bean
Awesome news that Bean will star in recurring lead role, Detective Benny Griessel. Did you catch the operative word, “recurring?” As in, for at least two movies, he won’t die from being shot, stabbed, beheaded, shot full of arrows (and then beheaded), pulled limb from limb by a team of horses or stampeded off a cliff (my favorite). The trilogy, said to be based on “revenge, forgiveness and the race to catch a trained killer,” will start with Devil’s Peak, followed by 13 Hoursand 7 Days. Set to shoot in Meyer’s native South Africa.
A young woman makes a terrible confession to a priest. An honorable man takes his own revenge for an unspeakable tragedy. An aging inspector tries to get himself sober while taking on the most difficult case of his career. From
this beginning, Deon Meyer weaves a story of astonishing complexity and suspense, as Inspector Benny Griessel faces off against a dangerous vigilante who has everything on his side, including public sympathy.
A gruesome abuse case has hit the newsstands, and one man has taken it upon himself to stand up for the children of Cape Town. When the accused is found stabbed through the heart by spear, it’s only the beginning of a string of bloody murders – and of a dangerous dilemma for detective Griessel. The detective is always just one step behind as someone slays the city’s killers. But the paths of Griessel and the avenger collide when a young prostitute lures them both into a dangerous plan – and the two find themselves with a heart-stopping problem that no system of justice could ever make right.

Few Period Drama's in the Offing, of late
It could be the time of year, but there are few Period Drama films or TV productions of late. I think at this point, they are holding off until it's gets nearer to Award time. I am always looking for news of up and coming showings, but until there is a lot of new information, I am going to introduce some older, less known Period Dramas films that I found intersting. I, peronsally, have a vast collection of PDs. I think there are very few I do not own, so I have a lot to choose from. Also, I've been thinking (but no decision made) of taking the front page to a blog look, so that people can make comments to various postings. That's on a back burner, but the thought is growing.
